Kick-starting regional resilience: Join the Pathways2Resilience launch event

On November 23, 2023, Pathways2Resilience is holding a launch event, Resilient Europe: Empowering regions for climate adaptation, to jumpstart the involvement of regions in achieving the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. The event will detail progress already made in building resilience to climate-related hazards, inviting interested regions, experts in climate adaptation, policymakers, and EU Mission Charter signatories together to discuss what transformative adaptation will look like across the EU.

The hybrid event will mark the first call for applications for Pathways2Resilience, welcoming regions to apply and get involved in the development of strategies and action plans to boost their resilience to the impacts of climate change. The selected 100 regions will be directly supported by the Pathways2Resilience consortium and together receive €21 million to advance their approaches to climate adaptation. This process is the start of the central objective of Pathways2Resilience: supporting a total of 150 regions in developing transformative adaptation plans.

During the launch event, regions will hear in detail about the application process and how they can prepare to be part of Pathways2Resilience. Elina Bardram, Mission Adaptation Manager, will also give a keynote address outlining the crucial role of regions in building a more climate-resilient future, whether through enabling policies, new approaches to financing, or systems innovation. Regions will then ground these roles in real solutions, as they lead a panel discussion outlining the ways that transformative adaptation is already taking shape on the ground. From there, participants will be able to explore the innovative process in which the 100 selected regions will partake; one that Pathways2Resilience calls a Regional Resilience Journey.

This launch event is a key moment for advancing the goals of the Mission Adaptation, and one that signals a new and collaborative pathway towards enhanced resilience in regions across Europe.
