EU Policy action to prevent and prepare for the growing impacts of climate change is at a turning point. While many initiatives, particularly those developed under the EU Mission: Adaptation to Climate Change, have generated strong good practices, the next challenge is to mainstream their adoption and secure long-term success of these climate proofing solutions. Despite growing climate risks, local and regional authorities continue to not prioritise adaptation measures inconsistent access to data, fragmented support, and short-term project funding. Above all, a lack of knowledge on adaptation remains the most frequent reported barrier of mission signatories.
In this context, the objective of the session is to present the needs of cities and regions to boost resilience to climate change, share concrete adaptation solutions, explore the policy levers that can support their uptake. The discussion will contribute directly to the preparation of a White Paper under the REGILIENCE project highlighting the main gaps in EU climate adaptation policy and implementation. The event will gather local, regional and European experts and policy makers to discuss how EU policies can best support adaptation in practice.
